Get Inside the Mind of a Genius on the Sept 24th Classical Connections Concert

What is the relationship of an opera's overture to the dramatic action of the opera itself? That's the question Beethoven grappled with when creating the opening of his only, but mighty, opera, Fidelio. DPO Music Director Neal Gittleman explores this question with you during this excursion into Ludwig's inner psyche. | single tickets online | subscribe online

It's opening weekend, so renew acquaintances with like-minded music fans in the Wintergarden starting at 6:45 or so. Citilites will present scrumptious Dinner-by-the-Bites ($2 each) and champagne flutes ($5) or call (937) 222-0623 for full dinner reservation. The DP&L stage hosts local pianist Linda Kessler. McCoo & Davis Bring the Sound They Created for the 5th Dimension, Oct 8/9

The year 1967 was a landmark year in popular music: it saw the release of monster hits like Light My Fire, Respect, Happy Together and a cascade of songs that defined a sound - and a generation. That's when the 5th Dimension hit the charts with Up, Up and Away, followed rapidly by Stoned Soul Picnic, Aquarius and more. Founded by Marilyn and Billy, the group set a new style for mellow harmonies, soulful arrangements and classic lyrics. This concert brings the sound alive. | single tickets online | subscribe friday online | subscribe saturday online

The celebration starts early in the Schuster Wintergarden with live music, Dinner-by-the-Bites and Champagne flutes. Or book your reservation at Citilites for full dinner. Either way, it's a great start to an unforgettable evening. Concerts start promptly at 8:00.

Mozart's Requiem: His Glimpse Into the Eternal, Oct 15/16 with DPO Chorus

Despite many mysteries and myths, or perhaps because of them, Mozart's sublime Requiem remains one of the most spectacular expressions of sacred music ever written. Begun initially for a commission, it became his elaborate swan song. DPO & Chorus under the baton of Chorus Director Hank Dahlman bring this masterwork to vivid life. On the first half of the program, DPO Assistant Conductor Patrick Reynolds takes the podium for dramatic works by Adams and Hindemith. | single tickets online | subscribe online

As a prologue to this concert come see the Academy Award-winning motion picture, Amadeus, at the Masonic Center at 3:00 pm on Oct 3rd. It's FREE to all DPO subscribers (any package) or holders of tickets to either Oct 15 or 16 concerts. Call (888) 228-3630 to reserve an assigned seat. First come, first served. Neal Sets a Ghoulishly Fun Tone for Halloween with "PhilharMonster" Oct 30

Music is such an important part of Halloween that we tend to take it for granted. Not so on the first Family concert of the new season, the annual PhilharMonster concert for kids and their parents and grandparents. The music, along with plenty of hijinks, takes center stage. As always, the Orchestra will be in costume and Neal will appear as... well you'll just have to come and see! | single tickets online | subscribe online

Come at 2:00 for family fun in the Schuster Wintergarden. Costume contests (prizes for three categories: ages 0-6, 7-12 & 13 and up) plus activities like face-painting and an instrument petting zoo are just part of the fun.

The Piano Master Celebrated in Two Evenings, Different Programs Nov 5/6

Frédéric Chopin was born 200 years ago this past March and we are celebrating his wonderful Romantic piano output on two dates in November. For this miniature festival, one of our favorite pianists, Janina Fialkowska, will join the DPO to honor the great master with her nuanced and expressive approach to Chopin's sound world.

Each night finds her performing each of Chopin's two piano concertos, as well as a different solo piano recital! Janina and the Orchestra will also portray the Polish master's romantic world through works by his famous contemporaries: Berlioz, Chopin, Mendelssohn and Liszt. Be sure to book both exciting evenings. Neal is on the podium. | evening one tickets online | evening two tickets online | subscribe online
