THE ROMANTICS

The Romantic Age of music ushered in the notion of the primacy of the individual artistic voice. Heralded by Beethoven's avante-garde Ninth Symphony, the era flowered in the mid-to-late 1800s with breakthroughs such as Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique and Liszt's pianistic extravagances and finally reached a kind of apotheosis with Wagner's staggering musical dramas. These composers and their works are woven throughout this classical season, as Neal and your DPO celebrate the Romantic vision by featuring at least one major work of the genre on each program. The set of nine programs will take your breath away and transport your imagination to the farthest horizon.
